FOUNDER

Rosalyn Reed, LCSW | Founder & Visionary

Meet UYL founder Rosalyn Reed, LCSW, an Oakland-rooted social worker, educator, executive leader, and community builder with two decades of youth leadership work.

A fourth-generation Oakland native, licensed clinical social worker, educator, executive leader, and community builder, Rosalyn Reed has spent more than two decades creating pathways for young people and communities to heal, lead, belong, and thrive.

She founded Uniting Youth Leaders in 2005 from a deeply held belief that young people should not have to inherit access, privilege, or professional networks in order to realize the fullness of their potential. What began as a youth-centered vision has evolved alongside the young people and communities UYL serves, integrating leadership development, mental health and wellness, mentorship, cultural connection, professional opportunity, and intergenerational community.

Rosalyn brings approximately 16 years of clinical and social-work experience to this vision and is a California Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She earned her Master of Social Work from California State University, East Bay and completed her undergraduate studies in History and Political Science at Spelman College, including international study in West Africa. She also serves as adjunct faculty in Counseling Psychology at the University of San Francisco.

Her work sits at the intersection of healing and leadership: the understanding that sustainable leadership requires not only opportunity, but belonging, identity, wellness, relationships, and a community invested in who a person is becoming.

Across clinical practice, education, organizational leadership, and community work, Rosalyn's approach is grounded in equity, trauma-informed practice, peer support, and the belief that individual well-being and collective well-being are inseparable - putting the WE in WEllness.

As UYL enters its next chapter, she is stewarding a vision that honors the organization's twenty-year history while building new pathways for emerging leaders locally and across the African Diaspora.
